Calf Buddy™ 5 - 50L

Product Code: 900054

With 10L per calf, the Calf Buddy™ 5 is ideal for Ad Lib Systems and those using high volume feeding systems. The height and handle adjustable hooks allow the perfect height no matter what type rail you have.

The Calf Buddy 5 can be used for many uses from training to Ad Lib systems.

When to change the teats

Teat management is a critical part of a smooth calf rearing operation. As the teat ages, the rubber softens and the 'bounce back' is reduced. The impacts the teats ability to control the milk flow and activtate the suckling action.

Worn, fast flowing teats can't produce healthy calves!

You might notice that when you buy a new feeder, the calves look really good, the teats look ok, so you don't worry about changing them. The second group of calves don't look as good as the first and probably start to cross suckle and some nutritional diarrhoea starts occuring. You might think this is because of some weather changes or something, but it is the teats!

Calf Buddy Teats control the flow for around 120 feeds or around 9 weeks when used twice a day.

Best practise is to have one feeder per pen. Not only does this drastically reduce your time, but makes teat management super easy.

New calves = New Teats.  When those calves are weaned, remove the worn teats and insert new for the next calves.

Attach the Hooks

The Calf Buddy 5 Hooks are height and handle adjustable for the perfect custom fit on your farm.

  1. Measure the height of your rails
  2. Attach the hook to the feeder body using the height indicator.
  3. Attach the Swivel Handle to the hook depending on the type or rail you have.
  4. Feed the calves!

Milk is a difficult substance to clean off of surfaces. You need hot water to remove the fat, but the heat can bake the protein onto the surface. Using warm water to get rid of the protein leaves a film of fat. When fats and proteins stick to the surface of equipment, they form a biofilm, a nutrient-rich layer in which bacteria grow.
The biofilm protects bacteria from the cleaning process and results in equipment that appears clean but has bacteria on the surface. The cleaning process not only needs to remove fat and protein from surfaces but prevent the formation of a biofilm.
Made from renewable, high quality natural rubber, Calf Buddy™ Teats are kinder to the environment. Natural rubber absorbs the milk fat and protein which can cause the teats to become softer and start to drip. The milk flow can become faster, decreasing calf performance.

Recommended cleaning: Use a dishwashing detergent, or any other non-chlorine/ chloride dairy detergent twice a week. Important! Chlorine/chloride based dairy detergents degrade natural rubber which reduces teat performance and voids any warranty.

  1. Rinse your teats with water. Don't remove them from the feeder, the connection is very hygienic!
  2. Use a gentle detergent, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not use Chlorine/chloride based dairy detergents!
  3. Using a brush, lightly scrub the outside of the teats making sure to bend the teats. By bending the teats, any milk gets pushed back inside the feeder so the detergent can make contact with the inside of the teat wall.
  4. Rinse clean.
